Long Beach Summer Flute Institute Millikan High School in Long Beach Tuesday, June 20 – Saturday June 24, 2017. Now in our 14th year, this summer flute camp is designed for middle and high school aged flute players who wish to spend a week devoted to improving their flute playing skills. This educational and musical week includes master classes, recitals, performance classes, pedagogy and technique classes, flute choir, chamber music, body mapping, and more!

Want to learn from the some of the very best flute teachers in the area? Teachers whose students enjoy great musical growth and success at local and regional competitions, state and regional honor bands/orchestras, acceptance into some of the best music schools in the country, and careers in music? Come spend 5 days at CSULB, working with two long time CSULB adjunct flute professors, Darrin Thaves and myself. This year, we’re delighted to have three remarkable guest artists: Dr. John Barcellona (Professor of Flute, BCCM at CSULB), Micah Layne (Flutist and Boyle Heights Community Youth Orchestra Director), and Reneé Bhatia (Flutist and Millikan High School Director of Bands).

Long Beach Summer Flute Institute Adult Flute Day at The Bob Cole Conservatory at California State University, Long Beach on Saturday, June 24, 2017. This day of all things flute is designed for adult amateur/recreational flutists, undergraduate flutists looking to keep the saw sharp over summer break, or woodwind doublers who are looking for an opportunity to improve their flute playing skills in a non-competitive environment.

CSU SUMMER ARTS AT CSU MONTEREY BAY

The Complete 21st Century Flutist took place JUNE 27 – JULY 10, 2016 on the campus of CSU Monterey Bay. The guest artist roster for this extraordinary class included, in alphabetical order: John Barcellona, Ian Clarke, Robert Dick, Ali Ryerson, Carol Wincenc, yours truly, and two great pianists, Wendy Caldwell and Bryan Pezzone and Ali Ryerson’s phenomenal rhythm section colleagues John Wiitala (bass) and Akira Tana (drums)!

The artists and dates have been announced for the 2017 Iowa Flute Intensive hosted by Nicole Esposito, Professor of Flute at The University of Iowa. This 4 day intensive is nothing short of amazing! You won’t want to miss it!
